With Warner roll out their DC Universe expanded from next year, the superhero movie market to be a confined space, while rival studios are fighting for important release track. Warner's much-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have already moved release dates twice, first from July 2015 until may 2016 and then forward to March 31 next year, to avoid a clash with Marvel's Captain America: the civil war.
Now Warner ceo Kevin Tsujihara spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the decision to move the film to the current date, and how it contributed to a disappointing summer gross for the studio in years. "It was a tough decision at the time because it was going to make a hole in 2015," he said. "But it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, DC and the movie.
"After seeing the movie several times, and again last night, I am quite sure that it was the right decision to make the movie better. And it is so important for the studio to get the Foundation right on the DC.
Batman v Superman will be the second film in the expanded universe, after 2014 's Man of Steel. Warner has announced an ambitious release slate over the next few years, including David Ayers suicide Squad-because the next August-and future titles as Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, more Batman's and two Justice League movies.
Batman v Superman: Dawn justice is directed by Zack Snyder, and will present the Ben Affleck's debut as the Caped Crusader. Henry Cavill as Superman Returns, while Jesse Eisenberg and Gal Gadot takes on the roles of Lex Luthor and Wonder Woman respectively.
